Throughout Chantal Petitclerc’s career, numerous organizations have sought to recognize her sports achievements and personal contributions to society.

  • 2005, Chevalier of the Ordre National du Québec
  • 2004, Laureus Prize, Paralympic Athlete of the Year
  • 2004, Sports Canada Female Athlete of the Year (a first for a paralympian)
  • 2004, Personality of the Year of La Presse newspaper (with  General Romeo Dallaire)
  • 2004, Canadian of the Year of McLeans magazine
  • 2004, Nation Builder of The Globe and Mail newspaper
  • Third most admired Quebec personality according to a poll by TVA and Léger Marketing.
  • One of the twenty most influential women in sport according to the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity.

In December 2003, she received the Meritorious Service Medal, Civil Division, from Canada’s Governor General, the Honourable Adrienne Clarkson. The meritorious service awards honour Canadians and foreigners whose achievements have made all Canadians proud. These remarkable individuals — athletes, soldiers, researchers, community activists — have contributed to Canadian society, both at home and abroad, through their strong determination, talent and excellence.
